Dear parishioners and friends,
I learned today that Fr. John, an archimandrite at St. Dionysios Monastery in St. James, reposed in the Lord early this morning. I didn’t know Fr. John extremely well but I did know him well enough to know that he was a profoundly humble and kind man.
Continue reading Memory eternal: Archimandrite John (Erickson)With great sadness, but in faith in the Resurrection of Our Lord, we announce the untimely repose of the Servant of God, Jhon (Ioan) Chiciu, son of Ioan and Veronica Chiciu, on July 22 in Bronx, New York. Jhon is the brother of Cristina Chiciu and Marius Chiciu, and nephew of Mark and Maria Guyer.
Jhon had recently relocated to West Virginia with his parents, therefore the interment will take place close to their home. The funeral services will be held in Clear Spring, Maryland, led by Fr. Ștefan Drăgoi of the Nativity of the Theotokos Romanian Orthodox Church in Norfolk, VA.
On behalf of the entire parish, we extend our heartfelt prayers and condolences to The Chiciu and Vornicu Families who are mourning Jhon’s repose.
May the memory of the newly-departed servant +Jhon be eternal!

We continue to hold services outdoors for the foreseeable future, to reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus through aerosolization by singing and chanting. Masks are required by New York State, even outdoors, when coming within six feet of another person. Please see our Schedule page for more details.
We are reprinting here a memoriam offered at the time of +Barbara’s repose by Ginger Jerosh. As Ginger notes, Barbara was truly a pillar of our community, who bore her illness with grace before the Lord, and who we miss dearly.
There are many different roles our parishioners fulfill in order for St. Andrew’s Church to function as a living parish. Some preach, some teach, some clean, others plan. We have some who sing or beautify our surroundings in other ways. Without the multiplicity of talents that each person offers, we wouldn’t be able to grow and thrive as a living organism.
Continue reading Remembering Barbara OndrisWe celebrated Liturgy today (June 14) for the first time after the Church being closed for three months, due to the coronavirus. Richard McLaughlin kindly met with me to set up things on Saturday afternoon, and was a huge help. We brought out the old altar that had been used by the community from its earliest times, and the matching Table of Oblation, and covered them with green cloths for the Feast of Pentecost, which was exactly one week ago. We placed the Altar on the cement walkway immediately outside the doors to the Narthex, which we left closed, and the Table of Oblation just to the left of the Altar. Nilus and Moses assisted as altar servers, and were invaluable. Lasha was on hand to conduct, and Juliana and Andrea were the singers. In attendance for the service were Richard, Jan & Mike, Andrew, Steven, and Gabriella.
