Yesterday, the Holy Synod and Archbishop Michael issued statements regarding the coronavirus outbreak. In an archpastoral letter, Metropolitan Tikhon reinforced the need to respect civil quarantines to “flatten the curve” out of love and concern for our brothers and sisters. In the act of congregating itself, the virus has an opportunity to spread; even if none of us become ill, we may transmit it beyond our community, and even if a fraction of the people who come into contact with the virus become ill, it will easily overwhelm the medical system.

Approximately 60 people attended the New York City Deanery’s 2020 Distinguished Diocesan Benefactors Fund (“DDB”) dinner last night at St. Andrew’s Church in Dix Hills, NY. It was a serene, picturesque day as the sun was setting and the attendees began to arrive. Host pastor, Fr. John Klingel, welcomed the guests, many of whom took the opportunity to visit the church temple to see its beautiful iconography and stunning, newly refurbished copper-clad cupola. We greet you with great joy on the feast of Holy Theophany, the feast of Christ’s baptism, and the revelation of his divinity, as encapsulated in the troparion for the feast: “When You, O Lord were baptized in the Jordan / The worship of the Trinity was made manifest / For the voice of the Father bore witness to You / And called You His beloved Son. / And the Spirit, in the form of a dove, / Confirmed the truthfulness of His word. / O Christ, our God, You have revealed Yourself / And have enlightened the world, glory to You!”

The feast of Holy Apostle Andrew, the ‘first-called’ of Christ’s Apostles, and the patronal feast of our parish, was celebrated on the Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving Weekend in a truly beautiful and prayerful manner.
